Flag of South Korea: Size: The other name for the national flag of the country is Taegukgi. The flag of South Korea is divided into three parts. It is a four-color flag. The base color of the flag is white, while it has a red, and blue Taegeuk insignia in the middle, and, it has four dark trigrams on each edge of the banner. The flag was adopted in 1945 after South Korea gained independence from Japan. The proportion of the flag is 2:3. Similar to the current flag that was used before independence. South Korea Adopted the Taegukgi after the autonomy of the country. Meaning: The flag of South Korea seems strange, but it has deep meanings and represents the people living in the country and the history of the country. Most of the part of the flag is covered in white color. The white shade is a customary shade in Korean Culture. The white shade addresses harmony and virtue. The circle in the flag is Tageukgi which represents the balance of life. The red half of this emblem represents the positive cosmic forces, while the other half in blue represents the negative cosmic forces. The trigrams which are present on each corner of the flag represent one of the four classical elements like heaven, earth-moon, and sun, or east-west, north-south or spring, summer, winter, and autumn. History: Before, South Korea didn’t have a national flag and, due to the lack of a national flag they faced many problems. In 1919, Korean government-in-exile used a similar flag to the current flag. Later on, in 1945, after independence, the flag was modified and re-designed. It was declared as the official flag by the government of South Korea on 15th October 1949, and the flag has been unchanged since. Interesting facts: At first, Koreans never felt the importance of having a flag, but later on, when Chinese and Japanese empires started invading the Joseon Empire Koreans decided to have their flag too. The white color in the flag is the traditional color of Korea and, it is the most used color in the country. This color is also used in making the traditional dress called Hanbok. The links between North and South Korea are not good enough, but still, they use unified flags during important occasions. The trigram in the flag represents more than just the yin-yang theory, and, it represents the four elements. 38,690 100,210
