Flag of Sri Lanka Size: The flag of Sri Lanka is also known as the Sinha flag or Lion flag. The flag of Sri Lanka contains a lion with a sword in it. The flag is of four colors. The colors present in the flag are maroon, teal, orange, and gold. There are two horizontal stripes in the flag and a rectangle. The base color of the flag is gold. The first stripe which is close to the hoist is in teal color while the second one is in orange color. The rectangle is in maroon color and a lion is holding a katana sword in its paw. There are four leaves too at the corner of the rectangle. The flag was adopted in 1972. The flag’s proportion is 1:2. Meaning: Each element in the flag has a specific and deep meaning. The four leaves in the flag represent kindness, equanimity, happiness, and compassion. The lion symbolizes bravery and the Sinhalese people. History: In 486 BC, the first king of Sri Lanka came to these lands, he brought his flag along with the lion sign on it.
