Flag of Kenya Size: The flag of Kenya is a tricolor flag. The colors present in the flag are black, red, and green. There are three horizontal stripes. The first stripe is black and, there is a white border behind it, while, the middle stripe is red, and this stripe has a white border on both the upper and below side of it. The last stripe is of green color. There is a national sign in the middle of the flag. The red, white, and black Maasai shield including two crossed spears, is at the center of the flag. The flag was officially adopted in 1963 after the independence of Kenya. The proportion of the flag is 2:3. Meaning: The tricolors used in the flag represent the country and the people living in it. The shades are quite dark, which gives it its meaning. The flag is a symbol of a citizen’s good relationships and pride. The black color present in the flag represents the people of Kenya as most of the people in the country are black people. The red shade shows the blood spilled from those people who lost their lives in the defense of the country. The green color in the flag represents the greenery and fertility of the country as the country has fertile soil. The white stripes in the flag represent peace and, the national sign in the mid represents the Maasai war. History: The current flag of the country is taken from the KANU’s flag. The KANU’s flag was the same with a different emblem. KANU tried to utilize their flag as a National Flag after the autonomy but the constitutional Affairs minister of that time suggested another design with the Maasai shield. The spears were accepted, the flag was officially adopted, and the flag has been unchanged since. Interesting facts: The colors of the flag are not chosen accidentally, but every color in the flag has a meaning and there is a reason behind it, and it represents the people and the history of the country. The concept of the flag was borrowed from the first politician’s party in the country. Whenever the flag is raised or lowered in the country, people have to stand in respect of the flag which shows the patriotism of the people towards their country and the flag. Not everyone can raise or lower the flag in the country. If any civilian is caught lowering the flag, he will be arrested. 224,081 580,367
