DR Congo Flag Size: The flag of the Congo is a tricolor simple flag. The colors present in the flag are sky blue, yellow, and red. This flag has been cut with a strip of red color with yellow ribbons on both sides. The upper side has a yellow star while the lower side is just sky blue, and it’s empty. This flag was adopted in 2006 under a new constitution which was ratified in 2005. The red diagonal band which cuts the flag goes from the lower left side to the upper right side. The proportion of the flag is 3:4.
Meaning: The colors used in this flag may be common and can be seen in many flags throughout the world, but these colors have deep symbolism. The blue color in the flag symbolizes peace and purity while the red color represents the blood and sacrifices of those who lost their lives in defense of the country. To remember and honor those red colors were added to the flag. The yellow shade shows the wealth of the country. The star which is located on the upper left side of the flag symbolizes the bright future of the country and prosperity of the country. History: The design is very old and was first used by King Leopold in 1877. The old design was just a sky blue background and a star on it. Later on, in 1960 6 more stars were added in the flag in a form of a strip, but this design also didn’t survive much longer and in 1963 the design which we see now came the only odd was that the star was a bit bigger. In 2006 after so many modifications and shades the final flag was designed and finalized. The flag is unchanged since. Interesting facts: The president of the country has a similar banner as it is on the flag which states “Le President”. There have been many versions of this flag in history with little variations in the star and the size of the strip. In 1960 before this flag was adopted Federalists proposed another flag too which was a tricolor flag, but that flag was never adopted. The Democratic Republic of the Congo does not have a flag day, they just celebrate Independence Day on the 30th of June, and on this day people hoist flags, and it is hoisted on the government buildings and the public institutions.
