Ethiopia Flag Size: The flag of Ethiopia is a tricolor flag with a golden pentagram on a blue disk in the center of the flag. The three horizontal stripes present in the flag are in green, yellow, and red color. The combination of these colors held symbolic importance in the past for the Ethiopian people. This tricolor flag was first adopted in 1897 later on few modifications were made, and in 1996 the present flag was finalized. The three horizontal strips are equal to each other and the proportion of the flag is 1:2.
Meaning: The flag has three colors and seems simple, but it has great meanings and these three colors are very important to the people of Ethiopia. These three colors were used for the flag by the Ethiopian Empire and the concept of these colors goes back to 1897 right after Ethiopia defeated the Italians in a battle of Adwa. The green color in the flag represents the richness and fertility of the soil of Ethiopia and also it represents hope as green is the color of hope. The yellow color represents peace and religious freedom while the red color represents the blood of those who lost their lives in defense of the country. Before many emblems were used but later on it was changed to a star which represents the bright future of the people of Ethiopia. History: The concept of tricolor was from 1897. The flag Ethiopia had at that time was a tricolor flag, but the emblems were changed and the designs were not as it are now. Many emblems changed until 2009. In 1996 star on a light blue disk was added to the flag but later on, in 2009, they modified the disk to a darker contrast. The flag is unchanged since. The first flag of Ethiopia had a crowned lion on it later on the crown was removed now it was a lion with a spear. Later on, in 1974, the lion was also removed from the flag, and from that time to 2009 many emblems were changed until 1996 when finally the star was added to it and the design has never changed just a slight color adjustment was made. Interesting facts: The concept of three colors was old, and it came along since. The star in the flag represents the unity of all nationalities in Ethiopia.
