Flag of Colombia: Size: The flag of Colombia is a simple tricolor flag. The colors present in the National Flag are yellow, blue, and red. The colors are distributed in three horizontal stripes on the flag. The yellow stripe is the first stripe and, it covers half of the flag, while the second or the middle band is blue and the third stripe is red. The bottom two stripes are equal to each other. The flag was adopted in 1810 after Colombia gained independence from Spain. The proportion of the flag is 2:3. Meaning: The flag seems simple with just three horizontal bands, but the design and the colors in the flag have deep meaning and represent the people of the country and the history of the country. The yellow band covers half of the flag, which differs it from the other tricolor flags present in the world. Every flag in the country has a specific meaning, and just like other flags, the flag of Colombia also has specific meanings. The yellow color in the flag represents freedom, justice, and independence, while the blue color represents the two seas that are present on the two sides of the country. The red color represents bravery and sacrifice. The red color in the flag represents the blood of the people who lost their lives in the defense of the country at the time of independence, and, it also represents the history of the country. History: Francisco de Miranda created the official tricolor flag of Colombia and explained the color of the flag. In 1801 Miranda requested materials and designed the flag, but, the flag was not raised until 1806. After many modifications and redesigning, and by keeping the concept they had before, the flag was designed and re-created and was officially adopted in 1861, almost 160 years ago. The flag is unchanged since. Interesting facts: At first, the flag had stars on it, but later, following the civil war, and political in-fighting, the Republic of Colombia came into being, and, a new flag was introduced. The stars on the flag were removed and, the colors on it were retained. The current flag of Colombia was created by Miranda; he was the military leader of the country. There are reasons why he chose these colors to represent the country. The colors have deep meanings and, these colors relate to the country and the people living in it. 440,715 1,141,748
