Nigerian Flag Size: The Nigerian Flag has three stripes in total. The upper and lower strips are green and the middle stripe are white. The flag was designed in 1959. Officially, it was hosted on October 1, 1960. The shape of the Nigerian flag is simple as it has only three equal stripes with two different colors, and the width of the flag is 1.2 m, and the length is 2.4 m. These are the dimensions of a large flag. The medium should measure 0.9 m by 1.8 m, and the small flag should measure 0.6 m by 1.2 m. The ratio is the same, and the stripes are equal. Meaning:The flag was designed by a 23 years old student who was at that time, studying in England. He submitted his design, among many other candidates. His design was selected so, the flag became official afterward. The green color used in the strips of the flag shows Nigerian’s natural wealth. Nigeria has fertile soil and many forests, so, to represent nature, there are two stripes in the flag. The white color symbolizes peace. History: A young scholar Michael Taiwo Akinkumi, who was studying in England, went through this ad in the newspaper. The ad was about submitting the designs for the flag. He then designed the flag in 1959 and submitted the design, among many other submissions. The design he submitted, had a red radiating sun badge in the center, but, judges voted for the removal of the badge, and the badge was removed, and just the stripes remained. The flag was finalized after the votes of the judges, and it has not been changed since. The flag was first hoisted on the day of independence in 1960. Although the design was approved in 1959 one year before the separation of Nigeria from the United Kingdom Interesting Facts: The Nigerian Flag is a national symbol, and it has been unchanged since it was adopted in 1959. The flag illustrates the vision, ambitions, and history of the Nigerian people. Whenever the flag is hoisted they organize a Ceremony. The flag is hoisted at 6:00am, and right after 12 hours of the rise the flag is lowered at 6:00pm. Another interesting fact is that old or damaged flags cannot be displayed. They consider it a sign of dishonor to the country. During the processions, the bearer of the flag is positioned in a way that it comes at the front and is dressed appropriately. 356,669 923,768
