Flag of South Africa Size: The National Flag of the country is a six-color flag. The colors included in the flag are blue, green, red, white, yellow, and black. There are two horizontal bands in the flag. The first band is on top, and it is in red, while the other one is in blue, and it is on the bottom. Both bands are separated by a green stripe with white borders. The shape of this stripe is ” Y” in between the arms of “Y” there is a triangle with black shade and separates it with a yellow border. Both horizontal stripes are equal in size. The flag is quite complicated and, it was adopted in 1994. The proportion of the flag is 2:3. Meaning: The flag is complicated, and, it is with six different colors. Every color reflects the country and its history. The red color in the flag represents the blood spilled by those who lost their lives in defending the country. While the green color represents the nature and the landscape of the country. The pall “Y” in the flag represents convergence as one nation as it unites all the sections of the flag. The blue shade in the flag symbolizes the sky and the two seas around the country. The yellow color stands for the natural resources of the country and, the black and white color represents the black and white South Africans. History: Before, as South Africa was ruled by the British, so at that time the flag was different. It was a red flag with the British flag at the top left side of the flag. The concept for the current flag dates from 1990, when Nelson Mandela was released out of prison. It was part of the negotiation process. The current flag was first flown on the 27th of April 1994. It was designed, and was officially adopted, and, the flag is unchanged since. Interesting facts: The flag is composed of 6 different colors and, every color present on the flag is symbolic of different values of the country. It reflects the history and the people of the country. The first three colors decided for the new flag were black, yellow, and green. Other colors were added after.
