Flag of Uganda Size: The national flag of the Uganda Country is a tricolor flag. The colors present in the flag are black, yellow, and red. There are equal 6 horizontal stripes with a grey-crowned crane on a white disk in the center of the flag. The crown with a gray shade is the national emblem of the country. The first strip’s shade is black, while the second band’s shade is yellow and the third one is red. The arrangement follows for the next three stripes. The flag was adopted on October 9, 1962. The proportion of the flag is 2:3. Meaning: There are six horizontal bands in the flag of Uganda, and each band is equal to the other. The black color in the flag represents the people of Africa, as the majority of the people of Uganda are black people. The yellow color in the flag represents the sun that shines and also it represents hope and a better future. The red color represents the bond of blood that connects the people of Africa, and it also represents unity and according to some theories it also represents the blood of those people who lost their lives in the defense of Uganda. History: The first flag of Uganda was proposed when the Democratic Party used to rule the country. The flag has vertical stripes, and it was a tricolor flag. The colors in the flag were green, blue, and yellow. Later on, when the party lost elections in 1962, the new party which came into power rejected the previous flag and proposed another design which is now the current flag. The flag was designed by C Todd, who was a professor of Fine Arts at Makerere University. He is the one who designed Uganda’s Coat of Arms.
