The current U.S flag is its 27th design. Since 1777, the flag has been updated 26 times. First, it was a 48-star flag and it stayed for 47 years but later on, one more star was added and it stayed for almost 1 year. After that in 1960 a 50-star flag was ordered by the president. This version of the American flag is the largest-used version. This version became official and it is the present flag of the U.S and it has been in use for almost 61 years. Interesting Facts: There have been 27 versions of the flag till now. The first version came into being in 1777 and the last and the final one were designed in 1960 after the president ordered the new flag. Each star represents the union or the state of the country and the flag has 50 stars now with 13 stripes. The current version of the flag was not planned. A 17-year-old student submitted his design along with 1500 other submissions by different people and his design was selected and finalized. You have seen Neil Armstrong with an American flag on the moon but did you know that almost five flags made it to the moon.
