Indonesian Flag Size:Indonesian flag is very simple in design and structure. It consists of two horizontal bands. The bands are bi color. The two colors are red and white. The top of the flag is in red and, the bottom is white. The overall ratio of the colors is 2:3. This flag was first introduced publically on the 17th of August 1945 at the time of independence. Later on, it was hoisted in 1949 and, the flag is unchanged till now. The flag contains two horizontal sections with just two colors and, these two bands are identified with different colors. The ratio in these two bands is 2:3.Meaning:The flag has just two colors. The first color is Red which represents the courage and the sacrifices of the Indonesian people. The second color is white, which represents the purity and the spirits of the Indonesian people. These colors also represent the history of Indonesia because these colors came from the ancient Majapahit Empire, which once ruled the whole of Indonesia. According to some people, these colors also represent sugar and rice, which are very common in Indonesia. These colors have been representing Indonesia since the 13th Century.History:
The official flag of Indonesia is adopted in 1945, at the time, when Indonesia got its independence from the Netherlands. Later on, the flag got its reorganization in 1950 when Indonesia succeeded in the revolutionary movement. Two stories clarify the origin and history of the flag. According to some, the flag came from the 13th Century. In the 13th Century, Indonesia was ruled by Majapahit Empire. These colors were used by that empire. The second story is that this flag came in opposition to Dutch Rule. During a protest, the Dutch and opposition flag was destroyed, then this flag came into being. This flag is a mixture of two stories. Interesting Facts: The Indonesian flag has a name too. Indonesian flag is also known as Sang Merah-Putih which means red and white. The rising of the flag is another interesting fact. Civil servants of the country raise flags on the 17th of every month and local Indonesian schools and colleges raise flags every Monday of the month to start their week with pride. Do you that the flag was banned by the Dutch as it was the symbol of independence at that time and later on Indonesians got their independence under this flag. Independence did not come overnight, there is a struggle and sacrifice behind this. 579,937 1,502,029
