​​Flag of Iraq Size: The flag of Iraq is a four-color flag. The colors included in the flag are red, white, black, and green. There are three equally sized horizontal bands. The first band is red while the middle one is white, and Takbir “Allahu Akbar” is written on it which means Allah is great and it is written in Kufic script. The third band is black and, these colors are of the Arab Liberation flag and represent the unity of the Arabs. The current flag was adopted in 2008 and the proportion of the flag is 2:3. Meaning: The National Flag of the country is made up of Pan-Arab shades colors that can be found on Arab nation flags. This color represents the religion of Islam as Iraq is an Islamic Country. The red color in the flag represents the sacrifices of the people who lost their lives to defend their country while the black color represents both the oppression and triumph of the religion. The white shade used in the flag shows the future of Iraq. It also represents the peace and the generosity of the people of Iraq. The green shade is the color of Islam and, it shows or symbolizes Islam and Muslims in the country. History: The original flag that resembled today’s flag was used as the flag of the Kingdom of Iraq. The three colors were present but there was no Takbir inside. Instead of Takbir, there were two seven-pointed stars. The flag remained in use from 1921 to 1959. Later on, another flag was adopted with the same three colors but now there were eight-pointed red stars and a yellow circle inside. Later on, till 1991, many modifications were made. In 1991 Takbir was added in between the three stars. Later on, in 2008 three stars were removed and the flag was officially adopted and the flag is unchanged since. Interesting facts:The three colors in the flag are adopted from the Arab Liberation Flag and, this is the reason why the flag of Arab is the same. The flag of Iraq is similar to the flag of Egypt, Syria, and Yemen. The difference is the Emblem and the colors are the same. Do you know? There were some efforts to change the flag in 2012 but those proposals were never accepted and the flag is unchanged. The Kufic inscription used in this flag is from Kufa which was an important city in the Islamic periods.
